Insider Guide to Finding the Perfect Jeans for Your Body
7 Fashion Tips to Help You Find the Perfect Pair of Jeans
We women come in all different shapes and sizes and boy are we beautiful. Curvy, skinny, tall, boyish—whatever silhouette you are, the perfect pair of jeans are waiting just for you. You know what I’m talking about—those jeans you reach for over and over like a closet BFF.
Personally, shopping for jeans at the mall is like a dental visit gone bad. Umm, like no. I’m busy and I’m a mom, so getting into a change room with my kids pouncing around is not really my idea of fun. Shopping online for jeans makes things a whole heck of a lot easier and finding your perfect pair doesn’t have to be painful.
Here are 7 fashion tips to help you find and rock the perfect pair of jeans that fit your body like a glove.
1. Dress your body instead of rocking the trend
I’m a sucker for trends, but they are fleeting. Start with knowing exactly what your body type is instead of buying the trendiest pair. Denim is cut to fit a certain way and give a specific silhouette. Of course you can wear any type of denim that meets your fancy, but it sure helps to know what style flatters you the best and and which body parts you want to accentuate.
TIP: If you want a little magic nip-tuck without going under the knife, go with a smoothing, high-rise jean with some stretch. Your butt will thank you and give you those abs of steel without doing 1,000 sit-ups.

2. Measure for a perfect fit
Know what an inseam is or where to take waist measurements? Our handy sizing guide walks you through fitting basics when shopping online. Get the precise measurement for the denim you want to order online and match it up to your own. Sizing varies by manufacturer, so ignore the number on the label.
It’s more about how the jeans make you feel, rather than the number on the label.
At Pink Liberty, we’re always here to help and our personal stylists will help you find your best pair.
3. Know your rise
Knowing where the rise of your jeans are will give you a sense of the fit at the waist. Rise is the distance from the centre of the pelvis to the top of the waistband.
- Low rise - Sits below the navel usually 2-3 inches below
- Mid-rise - Sits just just below the navel
- High rise - Sits at the navel or above
Mid rise jeans generally provide the most flattering fit for most women. If unsure when ordering online, it’s usually a safer bet to go with a mid-rise pair.
4. Fabric and stretch go a long way
Denim has its own personality and is fabricated to behave in a certain way depending on the material. A lot of technology and innovation go into the manufacturing of jeans and every seam, zip and material combination impacts the stretch, wear and longevity of the jean.
Generally, a great pair of denim jeans will have a combination of natural and synthetic fibres, such as a cotton/polyester; rayon, tencel or lyocell for softness/drape; and spandex or lycra for stretch. More or less of each of these fibres will determine how your jeans fit and wear over time.
If you’re looking for an eco-friendly option, buy jeans that use eco-friendly dyes or contain all-natural fibres.
TIP: Washing your jeans less frequently will give you that lived-in, comfy feel and prolong the fade/colour of your jeans. Simply steam or bring into the shower with you to refresh. Follow the care label when washing, but generally every 5-7 wears is best in cold water.
5. Get to know the basic styles of denim
There are literally hundreds of denim styles that evolve on a constant basis. If you want to take the guesswork out of choosing, stick to basic silhouettes such as slim fit, high-rise or boyfriend jeans. Here’s a little fashionary on common jean styles from Sparkle and Fuzz.
Denim details such as fade, wash, rinse, whiskering, pockets, embellishments and hem details impact the style and appearance of your jeans. Distressing on jeans is a personal fave that give an edge to your style.
6. Sit down, stand-up and squat
Do the denim dance! The best way to see if your jeans will fit is to sit down, stand-up and squat. Move around and walk the runway to see if there’s any weird crotch situation happening or plumber’s butt when you squat. Just sayin’!
7. What’s your budget?
While it’s easy to snag a cheap pair of jeans for under $50, denim at these price points usually don’t last. If you’re willing to splurge a little bit more, your denim will last a lifetime. We love affordable luxury at Pink Liberty and a have styles to fit every body and every budget.
Following these simple tips will guarantee you’ll find the perfect pair to live in and create memories in.
